The Hope Institute of Sound is Liverpool Hope University’s student radio station situated in the Lecture Theatre Complex, Hope Park.


Students can get involved with THIS Radio station through activities (all training will be given) such as:

  • Presenting radio shows

  • Video filming and post-production editing

The radio station serves the city of Liverpool, which has a long musical tradition. A musical tradition recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) who conferred upon Liverpool the UNESCO status as a City of Music  Liverpool’s vibrant night life economy (Purple Flag status ) and musical industry offers students lots of opportunities to mix radio work with pleasure in their pursuit of creating original and exciting programming and producing stimulating content.

THIS Radio seeks to produce output that is stimulatingly creative, pursues cultural excellence and endeavours to factually report features with journalistic integrity. Serving our whole community with a rich tapestry of content that represents the diverse communities within Hope and its position in the city. The station operates a non-discrimination policy that supports responsible free speech.

We of course cater for all communities and have a ‘patch work quilt’ approach to the broadcast schedule. The station encourage’s each student to find his or her voice and grow into becoming a confident public communicator. No experience of presenting is required to start your THIS radio presenting career, we have a developmental approach to training that will be discussed at your initial meeting. No previous experience is needed.

We work with all varieties of students, from those who have never thought they would have the confidence to try presenting, to those who know it is a career for them and are building their CV and experience.

And if your talent lies in one of the less public facing activities listed above, we will train you and facilitate your development and expertise in each area of contribution to the station.

Wherever you find yourself in the station’s activities, we have opportunities for you to grow in a host of skills, have a great social time, and to develop your C.V.
